It was the best recipe I’ve used for beef stew.
Thank you!

I’m not usually one for reviews but I just had to on this one!!! We absolutely loved it! I think I can say it was the best beef stew recipe I’ve ever made! I followed the seasonings and added sourdough dumplings for the last 20 mins. Just took them out for a few mins when they were done to add the cornstarch so I could stir and then placed them back. It was perfect! Thank you so much for sharing!

Remember, recipes are only a guide. Adjust accordingly. I doubled the spices, added another teaspoon of salt, and another clove of garlic. I finished it out with 1/4 cup flour mixed well with water. This resulted in a nice, rich sauce. I paired it with a toasted garlic bread. Overall, a yummy treat on a cool day.

I tried this recipe again, but the stove top version. I doubled all of the herbs and spices, and doubled the tomato paste. I also doubler the worcestershire sauce and increased the garlic to 3 cloves. This came from your recipe, Rachel. My husband, son and I think it’s the best beef stew that we have ever tried! THANK YOU AGAIN!!!

In reply to Janet Ito.

Wow great ideas for cooking stew. Ive been cooking for 60 years and am always up to new ideas. Your recipe was great. If people don’t like it obviously they should do their own recipe and keep rudeness inside their thoughts.
Thanks again for your recipe

2nd time I made it. Didn’t have any garlic cloves so I subbed coarse garlic powder. Didn’t have any allspice and I didn’t add the sugar. I used top sirloin. My wife who is a fantastic cook (who was under the weather) said it was great. I enjoyed it also. Thank you. I didn’t read any comments but getting ready to now.

You get five stars just because of your reply to this woman. You showed awesome kindness and twisted a negative with a positive. Also I’m excited to try your recipe, it’s simmering as we speak. The allspice is a great additive.

I read some of the newest reviews and saw a couple ways I can tweak the recipe. I will also put more of the spices that you have recommended. I’ll get this to taste the way I want it to. I will still be using your recipe as the major building block. I’m not sure when I will be making it again. We had to buy the majority of the spices, so the cost to make this was $40. Now that I have them, it should be around $30. I like that much more. I’ll follow up with you after I make it.

I’m sorry to hear the recipe didn’t meet your expectations! Prep time can vary depending on experience and tools, and I love your idea of doing it the night before to save time. As for the flavor, “my stew can stand on its own two feet!” though I don’t ever expect to please everyone. Hope you find a recipe you like better!

If you want an easier and faster prep time, do it the night before. This takes much more than 20 minutes. To top it all off, this stew is just meh. The spices do not add any extra flavor and is QUITE disappointing. Skip this recipe and find one in your favorite cookbook. Better yet, try to get your grandmother’s recipe. Yes, I did follow all of the directions to a “T”.
