I have used this recipe since 2017 in a variety of pan sizes and with different frostings (ganache, fondant, and Swiss meringue buttercream). Always a success! Thank you!

The best chocolate cake recipe I have ever used! I use it for birthday cakes and for weddings cakes. Moist yet stable and holds up well for stacked cakes! Thank you for a wonderful chocolate cake recipe!

No, unfortunately. Self rising flour should only be used in recipes that specifically calls for it. It can’t be used as a substitute for any flours without significantly altering the recipes.

In reply to Linzie Hoffman.

I’ve used this recipe countless times over the years and it has never failed me. Always turns out perfect. I even forgot to add the milk one time and it was still so good! Not as moist, but I only noticed something was missing because I knew what the finished result tasted like. Used the recipe for cupcakes as well and they are just as amazing!

Yes it is. Many bakers have reported fantastic results with fondant on this cake.

My only question is: is this cake substantial enough to support fondant? (Fondant is requested by the “customer”)

You’ll need 2/3rds of the recipe and the bake time will be about 35-40 minutes at 350°F. Start checking at the 30 minute mark just to be sure.

Both are great for piping into a swirl. Done it a million times. Happy birthday to your son! He’ll have perfect cupcakes.

I made this cake into cupcakes and it was amazing I did a test run as I am making cupcakes for my sons birthday. I’m debating chocolate buttercream vs your cream cheese chocolate buttercream. Is your buttercream pipable I don’t want to do anything crazy jsut a swirl on top
